Research Assistant, Web Developer/Full Stack/Bioinformatician job with NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE

Roles and responsibilities

The National University of Singapore is inviting applications for a Research Assistant position in the Translational Research in Synthetic Biology (TRP) Program at Yong Loo Lin Medical School. Appointments will be made on the basis of a one-year contract. There will be a trial period of 6 months from the start date. At the end of the trial period, a performance evaluation will be made.

Job purpose

The Research Assistant (RA) will be responsible for and work closely with the Principal Investigator and a team of researchers on defined objectives for projects of interest. The main role of the AR will be to work on Enzyme Function Initiative at the National University of Singapore (EFI@NUS) web tools.

Main tasks and responsibilities

The research assistant must:

  1. Plan, maintain and improve front-end and back-end web server and web portal to perform data analytics, with minimal supervision;
  2. Provide administrative support to the project, such as security, maintenance or web server, troubleshoot web portal codes and updates;
  3. Connect the front-end web portal services to the back-end high-performance cluster with the necessary software and tools.
  4. Help and assist researchers in submitting, editing, modifying and improving scripts to better meet the needs of research projects.


The applicant must:

  1. Hold a degree in computer science, bioinformatics or a related computer science field;
  2. Be able to work independently and in a team, and have an investigative nature and attention to detail;
  3. Have solid/good experience in computer programming, among others, but not limited to, SQL, Python, PHP, R, jQuery and have knowledge of Webserver, DB and Unix;
  4. Knowledge of analytical coding and bioinformatics tools will be an advantage;
  5. Have a good record of successful project and portfolio completion.
