Police arrest three for alleged kidnapping of web developer

Edo State Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the kidnapping of 23-year-old web developer Franklyn Onoaghakpote.

State police spokesman Bello Kontongs, who revealed this in Benin on Sunday, said the arrest followed a petition to police.

Mr Onoaghakpote had sent a petition to the police, recounting how he was allegedly abducted by a gang of kidnappers led by a man identified as Michael, and how he allegedly lost valuables worth N20million to of his attackers.

He said he was abducted from a popular hotel in Benin where he was brutalized for several hours.

“On February 10, 2022, said Michal asked to see me regarding a website that I developed for him two years ago.

“When I arrived at the designated place, I waited for him only to appear with about 20 boys who abducted me at gunpoint.

“They blindfolded me, tied my hands and took me to an unfinished building where they started beating me and forcibly took valuables from me.

“The items taken were a Samsung S21 Ultra with IMEI number: 350299944273493/35281786427349, an I-phone 6 and my bank transfer PIN.

“They transferred 4.9 million naira from my GT bank account to a Polaris bank account, $15,000 worth of Bitcoin, a gold necklace and a hand chain.

“They took me to a river, stripped me naked and started beating me again.

After the beating, they blindfolded me again, took me to a room where I was kept for seven hours.

“In the meantime, they were calling my parents for a ransom of 16 million naira or else they would kill me.

“They called their father who they say is a military man who ordered them to shoot me in the legs.

“They ended up beating my legs with boards before I was released around 2:30 a.m. on February 11,” he said.
